As we all know Microsoft has released Windows 7 RC build to Connect, TechNet and MSDN subscribers and public release is set to 5th May. Now if you have downloaded the RC build and you are trying to upgrade existing Windows 7 Beta build to RC, you'll get following error message:
Actually Microsoft doesn't recommend upgrading from Windows 7 Beta builds to RC build. So its not possible unless you hack a file "cversion.ini" present in Windows 7 RC setup folder.
So if you want to upgrade existing Windows 7 Beta build to RC build, follow these simple steps:
1. Download the Windows 7 RC ISO file and extract it using 7-Zip.
2. Now go to "Sources" folder and look for "cversion.ini" file.
3. Open the file in Notepad and you'll see following lines in the file:
4. As you can see the MinClient value is set to 7077 but the public Beta build number was 7000. So just change 7077 to 7000.
5. That's it. Save the file and run the setup.exe file again. Now it'll allow you to upgrade from Beta build to RC build.
