When in a quest for an interesting document or presentation, the solution can sometimes be a new font. Although Windows 7 comes with a wide range of fonts, you can find many websites that offer fonts, either free or for purchase. After you download a font you will have to install it and, when you don't need it any more, you will want to remove it or just hide it. Therefore, in this article, I will show how to install, remove and hide a font.
How to Install Fonts
NOTE: In order to install a font, you must have Administrator rights. After you have downloaded a font, if it's in an archive format, make sure to extract it first. There are two ways to install a font. The first option is to double-click the font to open it and then press the Install button.
The second option is to right-click the font and select Install.
If you now open any text editor you should be able to choose the font that you have just installed from the list of available fonts.
How to Remove or Hide Fonts
To uninstall a font, go to Control Panel and click on 'Appearance and Personalization'.From the 'Appearance and Personalization' window choose Fonts. This is the panel from which you can organize, preview, delete and hide your fonts.
To get to the Fonts window, you can also search for font in the search box from the start menu and click on the Fonts search result.
To uninstall a font, select it and then press the Delete button.
You can also choose not to remove a font, but hide it instead. To do that, select the desired font and click the Hide button.
If you want to show a font that you previously hid, click the font and then the Show button.
By default, Windows 7 will hide fonts that are not designed for your input language settings. For example, if your default language is English, then Arabic, Chinese or Japanese fonts, which are not designed for English language settings, will therefore not be displayed. To change this option, so that these fonts are not hidden anymore, from the Fonts window, click Font Settings.
From the Font Settings panel, deselect the box with 'Hide font based on language settings' and press the OK button.
